Working with abstraction, Stina crafts intricate textiles and applies mixed-media processes that combine archival data, sound, and text to create narratives that highlight Black and Afro-diasporic experiences and identity politics.
Stina’s practice employs traditional African and Haitian textile approaches intertwined with systems strategies and literary referencing to speak of the real and imagined past realities due to archival silences. Woven cotton, hand-dyed indigo, and welded brass are among the sourced materials that she uses when creating her historical mappings. In doing so, her practice gives form to the many bodies of knowledge that flow through geography, ritual, ancestry, and time. Building an iconography that employs bricolage, Baudin assembles fragmented stories into material expressions that move between fact and fiction, truth and myth, past and present.
Stina is a recipient of the Gilbert Foundation Scholarship (US) and the Maxwell/ Hanrahan Foundation Materials Award (US) from Cranbrook Academy of the Arts. Recent exhibitions include the Toronto Biennial of Art (2024), Cranbrook Museum of Fine Arts, Joliette Museum and Centre Clark (CA). She has been awarded residencies at ZK/U Berlin, the Banff Centre for Art and Creativity (CA), and Pocoapoco (MX). Her work has been supported by the Canada Council for the Arts, and Holon Berlin
